Candle Wax How And What Can I Do Get Old Wax Out Of My Glass Candle Holders?
Posted by WendyNov 10
I have glass candle holders and they are thick, I cant melt the old wax off, what can I do to get rid of this old wax and what can I use in the future to make sure the wax does not stick to glass?

Try placing them in the frezzer for several hours (depending on thickness). The wax should come off quite easily with very little effort.
I put about an inch of water in a small pan and set the candleholder in the water. Put it on the stove with low heat. As the water heats, it melts the wax and you can pull it out with your finger. Just leave it in there until it melts around the edges and loosens. You can leave it til it’s all melted but that’s messy. I pour the melted wax in a paper cup or can and toss it. I’ve been doing this for a long time and not cracked a candleholder yet. If it’s a jar candle or votive holder you can set it on one of those candle warmers and let it melt.
I’ve heard that if you lightly spray the holders with Pam the candles won’t stick. If you are planning on burning the candle down in an evening, put a little but of water in the holder. When it burns down the wax won’t stick.
Set the whole thing in the freezer for a few minutes, maybe 15 or so. Then the wax will harden and you can usually chip it right out in one piece with your finger nail. I would never heat candle wax to remove. Always use ice, or the freezer. Best of luck.
Hot water will not crack the glass. you can even boil them ( that is what I do) You can buy drip-less candles and remove them before they burn down into the holder to prevent this from happening again.
put them in the freezer for 20-30 mins and the wax pops out with no problem. no melted wax to worry about and perfectly clean holders.
before your next use rub a little tiny bit of baby oil in the holder so the wax doesn’t stick.
try it and be amazed at how easy and time saving it is.
Follow all of the instructions above about the hot water, but then polish the area that the candle wax ends up with some baby oil.
soak them in pretty hot water with soap for 1/2 hour then use sponge and clean.
Learned this years ago.. Put them in the freezer overnight and wake up and it will pop right out
Soak them in hot water the hotter the better. The wax will just come out in about 15 minutes. I don’t think there is anything you can use to prevent it from sticking in the future.
The only way they will break is if you go from hot to cold or visa versa. Put them in the sink and gradually make the water hotter.
I just dig out the old wax with anything I can find that’s Sharp, But when I put in new candle put in few drops of water and old wax won’t stick and its easy to get out, Best of Luck
pour gas or white kerosene in your sink and put the candle holder in there and put a lit match in between your teeth and put your face in the gas.
Go with the freezer ideas, it really works well.
Hot water, no, hot water THEN cold water, yes. It’s called temperature shock. You learn about it if you work at A&W. Anyways, just soak the candle holders in hot water, don’t let the water and wax mix, cuz it’ll make a mess of your sink, and that’s a whole nother problem. Anyways, once you get the big chunks out, just was them with a scrub pad until clean. Oh yeah, just garbage the old wax, unless you have candle molds and access to wicks so you can properly wick them. Normal string doesn’t work well, as I found out. lol. Anyways, good luck with that!
